Tungsten Carbide

Tungsten Carbide

B&B coatings can combine different materials in order for us to create a completely bespoke solution for your application.

Tungsten Carbide is a fantastic alternative to Hard Chrome Plating. Tungsten Carbide materials are generally recommended for wear applications with service temperatures of less than 500 degrees Celsius as higher temperatures will result in the formation of brittle phases that reduce wear resistance and coating integrity.

Typical wear applications include erosion (low angle) abrasion, fretting, sliding wear and impact resistance. Coatings applied using the HVOF process are dense and well bonded with a more homogeneous structure than can be obtained using air plasma or combustion powder spray processes.

Tungsten as a material is listed as a conflict mineral and as such is becoming more expensive and harder to source. Using powdered material enables you to have the properties of Tungsten without these downsides.

Tungsten Carbide Coatings are used in a variety of applications including: Hydraulic Pistons, Drill Bits, Aeropsce engines, Gate and Ball Valves, Down Hole Tools, Airplane landing Trunnions as well as various pump applications.
